Overview

This trek combines a journey through the Berber villages of the Azzaden Valley, discovering the Berber community, its unique architecture, irrigation systems, and agricultural terraces, while gradually acclimatizing to the altitude before ascending Mount Toubkal (4,167 m), the highest peak in North Africa!

Tour Plan

Day 1: Airport – Marrakech
  • Arrival at Marrakech airport, welcome by our local Spanish-speaking guide, and transfer to the hotel for dinner.

Day 2: Marrakech (450 m) – Imi Oughlad (1,650 m) – Tizi Oussem (1,850 m)
  • Breakfast at the hotel in Marrakech. Transfer to the starting point of the trek near the town of Imi Oughlad to meet the team (guide, cook, muleteers). Traditional welcome tea before starting the trek towards the Azzaden Valley.
    We hike up through the Mattat Valley, crossing the Tizi n’Oudid pass (2,000 m) with impressive views of mountains and Berber villages. Continue through a beautiful juniper and cedar forest, descend to Id Issa village, and then on to Tizi Oussem (1,850 m). Overnight in a guesthouse (traditional Berber home).

Day 3: Tizi Oussem – Aguelzim Pass (3,560 m) – Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m)
  • A challenging day! From the Azzaden Valley, we hike up past the Ighouliden waterfalls and climb steadily to the Aguelzim Pass (3,650 m). Lunch with spectacular views of the Atlas range. Continue to the Toubkal Refuge (Neltner, 3,200 m). Overnight in the refuge, shared dormitory with bunk beds.

Day 4: Refuge (3,207 m) – Summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m) – Refuge (3,207 m)

Early start (around 5:00 am) for the ascent. We climb steadily via a gully and ridge leading to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m). At the top, we enjoy a rest, snacks, and take photos of breathtaking views across the Atlas Mountains, green valleys, and Berber villages. Descend back to the refuge.

Day 5: Refuge (3,207 m) – Imlil (1,775 m) – Marrakech

Depending on weather conditions and whether the summit was reached the day before, this day may be used for the ascent. Return down to Imlil in the afternoon and transfer to your hotel in Marrakech.

Day 6: Marrakech – Airport
  • Transfer from the hotel to Marrakech airport for your departure flight. (Extra nights in Marrakech can be arranged upon request.)
